Slippery…at dusk is a continuation of the previous installation at SUGAR, Slippery When Wet. The impetus behind both exhibits lie within the slip castings, by Gwendolyn Skaggs, from seven plaster moulds (familiar amongst ceramic hobbyist and thrift stores) handed down three generations. Slippery are the notions placed upon theses objects/icons produced from the hand-me-downs, and the context they now calmly sit, as willing participants in an art world. Unlike the previous pairing with egg tempera paintings on raw linen, this installment includes the artwork of Art Guerra. In contrast, his shimmering, vibrant paintings are densely populated with glass beads- as pigment dispersions and light reflectors. Like the vibrant colors that ensue at dusk, the darkest stage of twilight in the evening, Slippery…at dusk has transformed the SUGAR landscape.
